Sleep: Finally the heaven’s have aligned and baby doll is pretty much sleeping through the night! Of course, that isn’t all the time but up until about 2 weeks ago, she was waking up like a newborn every two hours. It was rough so we tried to do the CIO (cry it out) method and had luck initially with it but after a week of doing it, Cassidy unfortunately caught a cold and then developed a rash on her head . Those two things combined made things hard but once they were treated, she has been going down pretty much without a hitch. I think the key is that we have a routine. Dinner, bath, pajamas, breast feeds, and then goes down to bed drowsy but awake. Additionally, Cassidy has been sleeping on her tummy. She is old enough to do so and I think its probably the reason she has been sleeping so well. Its her preferred position and the most comfortable for her.
Eating: We started to transition to solids about a month ago and have fully immersed ourselves now. I have been making my own baby food and starting simple. Sweet potato, green beans, mango, yogurt, banana, and avocado. So far she has enjoyed it all but yogurt is probably her favorite. She goes crazy for it and if I wait a second too long to feed her, Lord help us.
Milestones: Nothing has happened in terms of “major milestones” but she has definitely grown physically and mentally. She rolls everywhere, puts everything in her mouth, babbles all day long and lets not forget to mention how terribly she is teething. No teeth have actually poked through yet but I think they are close. Especially considering how fussy she has been these past couple of days/nights.
Physically: Every month I continue to feel stronger and stronger and more like my pre-pregnant self. Of course, with teething wreaking havoc, I’m a bit more tired than usual but thats to be expected.
Weight Loss: Surprisingly I have lost 5 lbs. I haven’t done anything really different or intentional to achieve this. In fact, the only thing I can think of is that I am not breastfeeding as frequently. I know what you may be thinking too? Shouldn’t that be the other way around? Well, for the past 6 months of exclusively breastfeeding, I didn’t budge a pound. I believe my body was holding onto that extra fat for milk making purposes. Now that baby girl doesn’t need as much, I think my body is letting me lose a bit. Of course it was a nice surprise to see but as you know, I try to not look at my weight. I go based on how my clothes fit and most importantly how I am feeling!
Exercise: In the past, I always aimed to try and get at least 5 days of exercise per week. However, due to little one teething and rolling everywhere, that has gotten a bit difficult to achieve. Instead of getting frustrated about it though, I am just embracing it and doing what I can/when I can. Even if it is a walk or a quick 15 minute circuit, I do it. I know it won’t always be this way so Im not going to let myself get frustrated. Just a new part of life I am going to have to balance.
Nutrition: I’ll admit, food hasn’t been the best. Like I stated above, time is limited because Cassidy is either fussy and wanting to be held, or rolling all around the room getting her hands on anything/everything. This has left me little time to really food shop or plan so I’ve been falling in the trap of just grabbing whatever is around me. Additionally, since Im a bit more tired carbs are my crutch. I am totally aware of it though and slowly trying to get more focussed. Thankfully its summer and fruits are plentiful so Im just keeping a ton stocked in the fridge to grab as a snack.
Mentally: If you have been following me on instagram, you may have seen that we are currently in the process of moving. As of now, we close at the end of July so that leaves little time to get things done and packed. Its a bittersweet next step but overall I’m super excited for our new noise and all the adventures, memories to come there… and possibly more babies?? ( don’t get too much excited, it will be a while till we cross that bridge again)
